Dr. Brent Russell is a board certified emergency room doctor, living and working in Sun Valley, Idaho. He trained in Portland, Oregon and spent the first decade of private practice there. With over 15 years of emergency room experience, Brent Russell has witnessed what most can only imagine.

Best ER book I've ever read!

I am an avid reader of all books concerning emergency medicine and other related topics. I have read countless ER books and I can say without reservation this one is the best hands down! So good in fact that this is he first time I have taken the time to write a review about medical related books.
From writing style, patient stories, to life lessons, this book grabs ahold of you and you can't put it down! I found myself anxious, frustrated and happy at the stories and lesson the author shared! I wish he was my doctor! He totally changed my view concerning frivolous lawsuits and how devastating they are to the doctors involved.
I never agreed with those type of suits, but after reading this book it opened my eyes to the evil of "unchecked" law suits.
Now I am hoping the author has another book in the works!! I'm very sad that I've finished the book.... I long for just " one more of his stories"!

Pleasurable read.

I highly recommend this book. It is a collection of stories from a emergency physician. This Doctor shares interesting stories, but more importantly shows us that these Doctor do worry about the quality of patient care that they provide. We have all had experiences in the E. R. with Doctors who appear to not care. Perhaps instead, they are at the end of a long shift, or they have become masters at showing minimal emotion to carry out their jobs. E.R. Doctors have one of the most difficult jobs, and the next time I have to wait , I will try be more considerate or their time. Thanks for sharing your stories Dr Russell, it was a pleasure to read.

A fascinating look at life as an ER doctor

This book is filled with engaging, calamitous, amusing and sometimes unbelievable stories of the author's experience as an emergency room doctor. And while the stories keep you fascinated, the author also does a beautiful job of interweaving his life and his role as husband and friend throughout. I thought a lot about how the book was written once I finished it and was impressed at how he came to write the book in the way that he did. It's a smooth-flowing account and feels seamless in its progression. But the author had to have done quite a bit of work in making it seem that way. It's beautifully constructed and that makes it a true pleasure to read.
I also felt that I got to know the author as a person, and a doctor, and he comes across as the sort of person you hope would be able to treat you if you ever needed to go to the ER. He's kind, compassionate, light-hearted and good at his job. He's also authentic in his depiction of himself and his profession. I'm grateful he took the time to write the book and hope he continues to write more.
