He has been involved in credit derivatives for 10 years and has held positions at ABN Amro, Barclays Capital, UBS Warburg, Rabobank, Royal Bank of Scotland and the hedge fund Solent Capital. Robert also has experience of project management across a wide range of asset classes and financial instruments from plain vanilla to complex exotics. There is nothing much about trade life cycle itself. Instead there is not lot of generic information about trading participants, financial market and instruments. The title is misleading. Material is hard to read. For someone who is already in financial industry somehow, the book doesn't bring much value.

A little interest boost for elementary school biology

Projects and activities to teach concepts, terminology, and (according to the author, Janice VanCleave) laboratory methods. This book and the others in the series each describe 101 experiments. For biology they are classified under plants, animals, and humans. Each is presented in a two-page spread with an illustration on the right. The order is logical. By working through the book doing some experiments and reading about the others, one would form significant concepts. An explanation is given for each activity. Growing carrots from carrot tops demonstrates that a plant can grow if it has portions of base, stem, and root, and if it receives food and water.
The explanations are oversimplified in some cases (for "finger monocle" for example). Younger students need simpler explanations, but I believe the scientific principles could be stated more accurately. Also, some of the illustrations could be improved, but basically the book is good.
For a total science program I would recommend a textbook or a number of broad topic books. Individual experiments miss some of the overall themes and some concepts are hard to demonstrate.
I have not seen evolutionary concepts in the book. It and others in the series seem best for about grades 3 through 5. Younger kids could profit from most of the activities. The explanations don't bring out the scientific principles clearly enough for older ones.

Never disappointed by a Janice VanCleave book

You will not be disappointed with this book! Janice VanCleave's Biology For Every Kid is divided into these categories: plants, zoology, and the human body with tons of simple hands-on experiments that you can do for each. I use these experiments all the time in my 7th grade classroom and the kids love them. Learning is so much better when it's hands-on! I would highly recommend this book for upper elementary and middle school science teachers.

An Excellent, Concise Resource for Science Teachers

As an experienced public-school science teacher, I find this book invaluable. Its contents range from simple, few-second demonstrations all the way to many-week experiments. Some of the experiments, such as the study of osmosis through use of salty water-soaked potato or cucumber slices, are commonly found in science books. Others, such as the spray painting and study of spider webs, and the counting of rings on fish scales to determine the age of the fish, are quite unique to this book.

Students can learn the parts of the bean seed, and how to grow yeast and bacteria. The book is profusely indexed. All experiments are each concisely listed on two facing pages. This makes it very convenient to photocopy and hand out to students--as when making suggestions for science projects.

How bad do you want it?

Excellent home fitness course. Arrived on time, and was in the condition that was stated in the description (like new/lightly used). The book is full of illustrations for 95% of the exercises, and is divided into sections for each muscle group (chest, biceps, forearms, back.....). My only complaint is that John, the author, decided to wear booty shorts when he was shooting the illustrations, but oh well. At least he had the confidence to do it I suppose. This was not designed to be a get-ripped-quick course like so many of the other products on the market today, but rather a guideline for maintaining your overall fitness for your entire life. Although this could certainly be used by itself to achieve just about any fitness goal you might have, there are probably quicker ways of getting to where you want to go than this, P90X for example. Based on age-old exercises proven by Charles Atlas and other pioneers of bodybuilding, this course will help you achieve your goals and energize your body like you wouldn't believe possible. If you have any doubts as to the effectiveness of these exercises, take a look at the kangaroo. Or a lion. No really, I mean it. I'm willing to bet that you're jealous of the kangaroo's physique now, huh? Never thought that day would come, did you? They don't pump iron, and their bodies are in peak condition at nearly all times. This is the idea behind this course. Your success is literally in your hands.

Awersome book I highly recommned it

I am on my second copy of this book, to me, this is the "bible" of isometric exercises. This book has photos, and descriptions of exercise to work all the major muscle groups of your body. Using this book and eating properly I have lost almost 50 lbs. I use to be a "gym rat", and years of lifting weights from my teens well into my early 30's, did a number on my joints. Now in my 50's I can do 95% of these exercises, without causing any discomfort to my joints. it takes practice and patience to learn to do use tension to simulate "weight", but it is well worth, this is a great book.

Packed with great examples and a great addition to my exercise routine. These body weight only / dynamic resistance exercises are especially well suited to getting them done quickly and done in any location (hotel room, your bedroom or anywhere you have spare time). The ab routine was very well written and worked wonders. Who would have thought 60 repetitions every other day (for first couple weeks) was all it would take to see great improvements). Derived from Charles Atlas and other best exercise practices that the author has pulled together in a great book. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure how this book can't change your life for the better

I have read my share of self help books and Bo Bennett and I have read many of the same ones (according to his many references in the book). This is a great book that distills many of the key learnings he has had and I love the action steps. For me, I think the way I am going to use the book is to revisit the action steps as often as possible to move from the learning position to action. I had a hard time not reading ahead and now I will revisit the "days" that I think that will really help me grow now. Great work to the author, thank you for your contribution to readers.

Packed With Knowledge!

Books on corporate outsourcing generally reflect one of two themes: Outsourcing is either the ultimate answer to all your strategic worries or it's the ultimate evil. Maurice F. Greaver II leaves little doubt about which camp he belongs to in his boosterish review of the outsourcing process. The fact that the author is an unabashed outsourcing proponent takes nothing away from this comprehensive overview of an important business trend. Greaver achieves a feat that most strategists-turned-writers do not even strive for: He quickly disposes of the why and gets right to the how. Outsourcing can be a complex, controversial and sometimes painful practice. This book will tell you how to approach it, how to implement it, and how to proceed once it's in place. The book does have a couple of shortcomings: It's heavy with jargon and it doesn't provide enough detail about how managers should address employees dissatisfaction, which is arguably the biggest hurdle an outsourcing company must clear. Despite these weaknesses, the book is an impressive work, which we at getAbstract.com recommend to executives, managers, employees and students.

OUTSOURCING ELIMINATES STALLS

I was pleasantly surprised by STRATEGIC OUTCOURCING which deals not only with what to outsource but how to make the outsourcing decision using key two questions: Is this a core or strategic area? and What do I save and gain by outsourcing this activity? Peter Drucker believes that the reason to outsource is to free up critical management time to work on important things. If you happen to save some money in the process, that is an added benefit, but not the outsourcing driver. STRATEGIC OUTSOURCING also deals with the people and transitional issues, and how to manage the business and the employees once the activity is outsourced. If you have not outsourced anything except payroll and tax before, you must read this book. Another process that you must pursue primarily because of the time saved for management is described in THE 2,000 PERCENT SOLUTION, by Mitchell, Coles and Metz. They describe a unique approach to achieve your goals in 1/20th the time by identifying and eliminating the stalls to progress and focusing on the best possible ways to reach your objective. Outsourcing may be one of them! I highly recommend both books.

A sound guide for those who do the work of outsourcing

A detailed 'when, why and how to do it' coverage of outsourcing, including a seven step methodology. The book is in eight parts. The first sets out an overview and the methodology. The remaining seven parts cover the seven identified steps:
Planning initiatives
Exploring strategic implications
Analyzing costs/performance
Selecting providers
Negotiating terms
Transitioning resources
Managing relationships
As you would expect of a book that is set up as a manual, there are plenty of tables, check lists and examples included to illustrate each process and sub-process.
'Outsourcing ... becomes strategic when it is aligned with the organisation's long-term strategies, and when the typical outsourcing benefits will emerge over several years, and when the results, either positive or negative, will be significant to the organization.'
While this definition and the subsequent detail distinguishes 'strategic' outsourcing from tactical moves driven simply by cost-cutting or problem solving, it is still a fairly long way from Doz and Hamel's definition of strategic alliances in terms of the 'race for the future' (technology) and 'race for the world' (globalisation). Outsourcing implies that the outsourcer is in control - this is not an equal partnership - even though the distinction from an alliance becomes somewhat blurred in the series of boxes throughout the text that go beyond traditional reasons for outsourcing to provide "Another Reason to Outsource". These wider reasons are mentioned, but there is little discussion of the relative advantages of outsourcing compared with other sorts of partnering arrangements.
