Great textbook

This is the best book to use to learn value stream mapping, and you can honestly use the insight gained by working through it to improve factory processes. Really.
I worked through the book myself over a hotel weekend, and then tried it out, and then read it again. I have honestly used Value Stream Mapping to take $5 million + (probably WAY+) worth of stupid out of the processes at my part of a factory that does about $30M per month in sales
The bad:
The book comes with a CD. It's worthless. If you buy a used copy without the CD, don't worry about it.

Update: OK, so this was interesting to come across a few years down the road... I bought this book and wrote the preceding review about 5 years ago. I got some very good results out the improvements that eventually came from mapping current state processes, and then mapping the future state, and then getting to work on the differences (lean mfg.). Over the entire factory, the benefit turned out to be a little shy of 10 million dollars. Fast forward five years, and now I've got my own operation to run. Obviously, everyone here has read this book. The factory supervisors and the lead men write the current state, and say what needs fixing. The engineers write the future state, and a Project manager figures out how to get there and prioritizes which problems to work in what order. So far, we've been able to take 5% out of cost in six months, and that's only because we don't have much practice.

Very clear step-by-step workbook

I saw this book referenced in several other books on the subject of Lean. I thought it was just an explanation of how to draw a value-stream map.
Actually, Learning To See is a real workbook. Most of its content explains how to draw a future-state map, step by step. And then how to link to policy deployment.
Very useful for a practitioner desiring to (1) write a diagnostic, (2) write an appropriate remedy, (3) make it obvious why the remedy is far superior to the current situation, and (4) formalize application of the remedy.

This book really deserve your attention. Just What I Needed

Logically laid out, beginning with the necessities first. This is much more pleasant to read than the manual which came with the camera. Quite a bit of color photographic images are contained in the book. Written in conversational style. Also serves as a good reference manual. This is what I was looking for.

About the Author
G. Lee Bowie received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Stanford University and has taught at University of Michigan, University of Mass, Amherst College, and Hampshire College. Currently he is Professor of Philosophy at Mount Holyoke College.

Meredith W. Michaels received a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Massachusetts. She has taught at Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire College, and is currently a Lecturer/Research Associate at Smith College.

Robert C. Solomon (1942-2007) was internationally renowned as a teacher and lecturer in philosophy. He was Quincy Lee Centennial Professor and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and over the course of his career taught at numerous institutions, including Princeton University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Auckland, and the University of California, in addition to the University of Texas. He authored more than 40 books, including Introducing Philosophy, A Short History of Philosophy (with Kathleen Higgins), The Passions, In the Spirit of Hegel, About Love, Above the Bottom Line, Fourth Edition (with Clancy Martin), Ethics and Excellence, The Joy of Philosophy, and True to Our Feelings, and he was co-editor of Twenty Questions, Fifth Edition (with Lee Bowie and Meredith Michaels), and Since Socrates (with Clancy Martin).

Basic concepts and ideas are not presented in easy to understand and relatable ways

I needed this for a class and it is downright awful. The text doesn't flow well and is difficult to understand. Basic concepts and ideas are not presented in easy to understand and relatable ways. Quotes are taken from philosophy text that rambles on and on needlessly. I love philosophy and bought this book instead of renting because I thought it would be nice to have but I can't wait to finish the course and sell this terrible piece of garbage.

I had to purchase this book for my intro to philosophy class. We didn't go through the whole book. I find a lot of the articles so interesting and challenging that I'm not going to sell it, I'm going to keep it and read the rest of the book!

Great on so many levels...

The strength of The Darma Revelation is that is works on so many levels. On the surface it is a good vs. evil glossy page-turner which is full of suspense, similar to many of the popular novels lining our supermarket aisles today. But that's where the similarities end.

Think the late Michael Crichton. Think quantum mechanics. Think collective consciousness. The story interweaves these concepts in a brilliant way, blurring the lines between great fiction and great science. There were times when I was reading this book that I felt that I was reading the most entertaining physics book that I had ever read. I mean this in the best possible way. This is the second level at which this novel works operates on, and it does so quite well.

Thirdly, think Dan Brown, but in a more reverent and inspiring light. Here, Halt takes us on a journey which challenges us to change the way we think of everything. Your religion, my religion, all religions. Could there be a common thread at work? Whether or not you agree with the author, one thing is clear: at the end of this book you will come away with a alternative view of your belief system, and you will a better person for it.

Overall, a great read.

Deep thinker meets thriller with a twist!

I picked up this book at the recommendation of a friend. The book takes a refreshing look at the religions and the common thread that intertwines the major ones. The story is delivered using an exciting thrill ride that made it nearly impossible to put down!

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a greater understanding or simply looking for a great story.

The best 99 cents that I have ever spent...

What a read! This is a great story... I imagine if Dan Brown and Depak got together to write a book that it would turn out something like this one. If there isn't such a genre as spiritual thriller... there should be one. Not only is it a great story, there is a lot of information on science and religion in the book. Mystery, love, murder... it's all in this book. There are a lot of characters that are slowly developed so you can keep them straight. Halt is a true professional writer. Lets face it, some of the cheaper Kindle books are not worth downloading... this is not one of those. I have recommended this book to several friends and they have all enjoyed it as much as I did... it's a long, satisfying read.
