A wealth of knowledge

The title to this book is somewhat misleading. It is not a trapper's bible. This book covers do-it-yourself snares, homemade box traps and path guards. However, it covers these topics better than I have ever seen before. I learned more about these topics in the 1 1/2 hours it took me to read this book than I did in 4 years of online research/fooling around, etc.

The basics of snaring are explained extremely well. The illustrations are wonderful and more than adequatly explain every point. Many of his tricks and sets of snares are so clever you wonder why you never though of them.

His box trap plans are pure genius and wonderfully explained. I havent found another source for such amazing trap plans or ideas.

Basically, this book will teach you everything you need to know about snaring. The only thing it leaves out is instructions on what to use to attract and where to set(with some exceptions). He does explain some but not much, it's generally common sense (although you can never assume things like that).

IF YOU ARE GETTING INTO SNARING OR JUST WANTING TO HAVE SOME FUN, YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. IT WILL GIVE YOU A PROVERBIAL "CRASH COURSE" IN SNARING

Great Little Book

I enjoyed the author's style and found the material to be interesting and useful. The primitive traps and trigger systems were described in great detail. Further, the author promotes the joy of using these primitive traps in such a way as to inspire the reader to actively try these systems for themselves. This book is an excellent addition to anyone's outdoor (or survival) library.

About the Author
Graham Jones has more than 35 years experience in the broadcast industry. With NAB he works on advanced television issues, technical standards, education and training. He is a member of both ATSC and SMPTE engineering committees. Previously he was Engineering Director for the Harris/PBS DTV Express - the educational road show that introduced DTV to many U.S. broadcasters. He started his career with the BBC in London, and has worked as a consultant to broadcasters in many parts of the world. He holds a degree in physics, is a chartered electrical engineer, and is a member of the IEE, SMPTE, SBE and the Royal Television Society. In 2004 he received the Bernard J. Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award from the Advanced Television Systems Committee.

From one who teaches Broadcast Engineering...

I teach Radio/Television Broadcasting (along with being Director of Engineering, CMAT) at a State University. I read this book and many others trying to find the perfect book to use in the B'cast Engineering courses I teach here. This book is by far the best I've ever seen for the beginner to novice Engineer. I started my B'cast career in 1978 -- I wish this book would have been around then, or even during my first 5 years!!! It's written in simple terms making it easy to understand, yet completely covers the subject to the most technical aspects. If you're majoring in Communications and have an eye on the technical side, GET THIS BOOK!

More like a dictionary

I was expecting a little bit of how-to in this book but it definitely is not that. It basically is an expanded dictionary of terms used in the broadcast industry. It includes a few diagrams such as a flow chart of Master Control. Meant for total outsiders to the industry. Best suited for a broadcast school where a person has no idea what broadcasting is all about.

Great history lesson!

This book is valuable for any non-engineer wanting to get up to speed on understanding a lot of forms of electronic communications. It obviously covers broadcast, but also new video technologies and audio/radio. The author does a great job laying a historical foundation of the different medias and then brings it all current. I found it to be a valuable read. This book is so good, that after my wife sold my copy during a garage sale, I later went out and purchased another copy to have in my library.

Does not stand on its own as a self-teaching method.

Play Piano Today! - Level 1 (The Ultimate Self-Teaching Method), comes with a book and audio CD. The book does a fair job of showing some of the basics, but it could have been a lot better. Right off the bat they start giving you musical pieces to play, but they don't tell you how to do it. This might be ok, if you knew how to play years ago and wanted a refresher. But if you have never played the piano before, this book will not show you how to do it. Likewise, the CD starts right out of the gate telling you to play things, but doesn't first tell you how to do it. Overall, I would call this product far from the Ultimate Self-Teaching Method, or a complete guide to the basics, which is how they bill themselves.

It's a good book with good exercises but could use a few extras. For someone who has piano experience in the past, this book is perfect. For a newcomer, it might be a bit nerve wrecking. I had to go and get an instructor to explain some of the fingering that were left out in this book. Why? I don't know. The book progresses way too fast for a newcomer to grasp.

Great book!

I have a musical background from Middle School through my Freshman Year of college and thought I could pick up the piano once before...that was before this book I tried a different one...and THIS book is wonderful! The pace is great! There are a few songs that are cheesy (even for how much beginning knowledge it has) thus I only give it 4 stars instead of 5...I have the DVD as well and find that it's sort of helpful...just because it gives the illusion of being taught...in other words, with the DVD it's good to hear things like, "Play slowly first" and "This will take awhile." That was reassuring.

Great for making homeschool feel like public school

I purchased this text at a much better price than my kids school could have on Barnes and Noble. I personally don't care for the curriculum as much as the Harcourt Language Grade 2. We are 4 chapters in, and working on simple and complete predicates. I personally don't think that this is appropriate use of an 8 year olds time, not only it is confusing, it does not help you become a better writer. The seller used USPS, which managed to fold this 600 pages book in half to shove inside my 6x6 community mail box. Awesomeness. The book was very mangled but it gave me a reason to berate the postal system.
