About the Author

Geoffrey E. Mills. A native of Australia, Geoff moved to the USA in 1986 to undertake doctoral studies at the University of Oregon. After completing his PhD in 1988, Geoff accepted his first teaching position at Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University). After 12 years of teaching, Geoff moved in to university administration and as Dean of the School of Education at Southern Oregon University for 12 years. Geoff is currently a Professor of Education in the School of Education at Southern Oregon University where he teaches in the Educational Leadership Licensure Programs.

Geoff has traveled extensively and given invited action research presentations in Australia, New Zealand, Greenland, United Kingdom, Canada, Guam, Saipan, Palau, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, and many states in the US. In addition to Action Research: A Guide for the Teacher Researcher, Geoff is also the only active author of Educational Research: Competencies for Analysis and Applications (2016) now in its 11th Edition.

Book content is fine - but the delivery method is ridiculous!

I have no complaints about the book itself but about the format and related issues.

I have purchased text books for my kindle previously and really enjoyed having them in such a format. I also shop frequently on Amazon purchasing a variety of items.

That said, I was shocked when, as another reviewer stated, a thin envelope arrived with basically a passcode for TEMPORARY access to the book. Another reason I thought I was getting a hard copy book - why do they need to ship a piece of paper with an access code? They could have instantly emailed me all the information I needed. Thank God I didn't pay shipping for this garbage!

I thought this was the book with an access card to additional online content (I now see the ad explicitly states it is an etextbook but I am certain when I purchased this item it did NOT state as such). The tiny pamphlet I received in the mail states it can be downloaded and that a "low-cost printer version" can be purchased if you already paid for the e-text. You cannot download the book on a computer - only a tablet. I am not as familiar with Kindle fire's operating system but it does not appear I can download it on my "old school" kindle touch at all. In addition, I note to get the "print" version - you have to pay $68+ dollars. But it isn't even in a bound book - it is printed and placed in a three-ring binder. That is not a low cost print version! Also, when I use the "in-app" purchase to purchase a print version, it says I can only buy this three ring binder print version with an access card that I already have. What a joke!!

I could let go of not being able to download and the temporary access and not having it on my kindle - but the worst part of the book is the interface Pearson uses. It is slow, shotty (the highlighting is worse than if the document was a pdf) and just plain irritating.

I work in an office with PCs all day and various software; I am a gamer and electronic enthusiast - I have multiple PCs, tablets (android & windows), game systems, etc. - and I am flat out disgusted with the website and interface. It is worse than Adobe 10 years ago. I cannot believe I paid for temporary access to such a pile of garbage. Yes, I can "see" and read the book, but that is about all.

The publisher (and to a certain extent, the author) should be ashamed. This is ridiculous!

Do not waste money on this option

What it is: Internet access only textbook (meaning you cannot read it offline). Also, it can only be used for 180 days (which really makes it a rental even though that is not indicated on this purchase). Once logged in, the e-textbook is very difficult to navigate. It is too cumbersome if you are used to a hard copy textbook. Do not waste money on this option.

Hate this e-text! Not what ordered!

Very Unhappy. I thought this was a regular book. I hate e-text. You cannot make notes or write in book. You have to read whole thing on computer. Some others have said it will not download on computer. All I have is a lap top. Bad for my eyes. Class starts in a few days, now what am I supposed to do? I will not be able to pass the class without the text book. And now there is no time to order a regular book. Total Rip Off. Over thousand dollars for tuition wasted, not to mention destroying GPA. I am straight A student til this e-text mess. Thanks.

This book is a wonderful introduction for anyone wishing to learn to play Hawaiian slack key. The music is in tabulature format and comes with tips for each song. Even a neophyte can be playing this melodic guitar music with just a bit of practice (you didn't think to avoid that did you?).
Those unfamiliar with the genre may not realize what a true master Ozzie Kotani is and that this is the slack key equivalent of having Eric Clapton teach you a few licks.
The only downside is the use of cassette instead of CD which would have made replay much easier.
This book claims to be the first in a three book series and I hope the others will eventually be available.

The first slack-key guitar book you should buy!!!

This is a great book for those who never played a guitar before. Once I got the guitar tuned to slack key I could actually start playing the first song. It is hard to believe that nice music can be made by pressing down on just one string at a time. I hope he comes out with another book with more songs to learn.

After working through all the songs in this book I
now have a set of beautiful and playable guitar pieces. Most are in G tuning and the progression from song to song is excellent. The left hand fingering details are very helpful.

In fact, it consists of three parts: The Exoteric Teaching, the Esoteric Science, and the Divine Investiture.

Part I, the Exoteric Teaching, discusses the meaning of the words “The Grand Cycle of Esoteric Teaching”, the revelation of God’s Will, the foundation and sacred goal of Cao-Dai Great Way, the essential virtues or qualities that disciples should acquire to prepare for their esoteric practice, and the method of self-perfection.

Part II, the Esoteric Science, is the core section in which Cao-Dai Supreme God unravels the secret of the Genesis, the Celestial Law, the evolution of humans and all beings, the universe as the macro-cosmos, humans as micro-cosmos carrying all the corresponding constituents of the macro-cosmos, method to manage them, the stages and levels of spiritual initiation, and the esoteric method of deliverance.

Part III, the Divine Investiture, shows proofs of sanctification of Cao-Dai esoteric disciples who achieved spiritual enlightenment, and manifested in spiritual s�ances from 1926 to 1950 (as this scripture was published in 1952). Through this part one can see another outstanding characteristic of Caodaism, which is the promotion and support for male-female equality in spiritual self-perfection and deliverance.

Note: This scripture has been translated in the French language twice (1950s and 2013) and its Chinese version will come out very soon.

About the Author
Born in Vietnam, Anh-Tuyet Tran was raised in Buddhist traditions. Early in the 1980s she had a chance to read the sacred scripture translated as The Grand Cycle of Esoteric Teaching.in which she found the answers for most of her questions on the origin and the meaning of life. Since then she has become a Cao-Dai follower. She immigrated to California, USA in early 1990s, where she received a Master degree from San Jose State University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of California-Davis. Currently she is a Chemistry and Biochemistry Lecturer at San Jose State University, and a member of Cao Dai Temple Overseas. After the busy hours of teaching and interacting with students, she lives quietly with her mother in San Jose, CA. Hoping that everyone could access and benefit from the aforementioned Cao-Dai sacred scripture she translated and published its English version.

My first thought after finishing this book was, what might happen if I "accidentally" left this book open on my computer. The story is well done, very erotic, without being smutty. The characters are believable and it is something you can share with your partner without being thrown out of the house. You never know, but the results could be exciting for all.
